2026 Becoming Empowerment Program
Theme: Investing Today, Securing Tomorrow; Prioritizing Adolescents and Young People
If the 2025 edition was a call to raise girls into leadership, then the 2026 Becoming Empowerment Program was a much broader and bolder call to society itself — a call to invest intentionally in adolescents and young people as a matter of urgency and national importance.
Held on 14th March 2026, the 2026 edition was a deeply significant and multidimensional gathering built around the timely and thought-provoking theme:
“Investing Today, Securing Tomorrow: Prioritizing Adolescents and Young People.”
This was more than a theme.
It was a statement.
A challenge.

The program spotlighted a truth that is often overlooked:
when society fails to invest in its adolescents and young people, it endangers its own future.
This edition of Becoming was both transformational and strategic, combining youth empowerment with advocacy, policy dialogue, lived experiences, philanthropy, and visionary institutional launching.
It brought together a remarkable blend of stakeholders and participants including:

- Students from seven secondary schools
- School counsellors
- Community-Based Organisations (CBOs)
- Medical Officers of Health

One of the major highlights of the 2026 program was the High-Level Stakeholders Forum, which created an important platform for critical reflection and dialogue around the urgent need to prioritize the health, education, protection, leadership, and future of adolescents and young people.
The forum underscored a powerful message:
young people do not merely need correction after crisis, they need investment before crisis.
The event challenged leaders, institutions, families, and communities to rethink how they engage with young people and to move from passive concern to intentional commitment.
A Powerful Panel of Lived Realities
Perhaps one of the most touching and unforgettable moments of the 2026 edition was the adolescent panel session, where four young adolescents courageously shared their lived experiences and personal struggles.
With honesty and vulnerability, they spoke about the consequences of being under-supported, under-prioritized, and insufficiently invested in realities that many young people silently endure every day.
Their stories brought the theme to life in a deeply human way.
They did not speak in theory.
They spoke from experience.
From pain.
From longing.
From hope.
Their voices became a mirror to society reminding everyone in the room that adolescent struggles are not abstract public health or social issues; they are lived realities that demand urgent attention, compassion, and structural response.
And in a powerful demonstration that the program was not only about listening, but also about responding with action, the four adolescents who participated in the panel session were automatically enrolled into the YOYES Foundation. This marked a significant and compassionate step toward ensuring that their stories would not end at the point of being heard, but would continue into a journey of support, empowerment, mentorship, and opportunity.
It was a deeply symbolic and practical moment; one that reflected the heart of the program itself:
to move from conversation to intervention, and from awareness to meaningful impact.
A Day of Vision, Legacy, and New Beginnings
The 2026 Becoming Empowerment Program was also historic for several other reasons.
It featured the official launch of three books authored by Dr. Yetunde Olagbuji, further amplifying her commitment to using knowledge, mentorship, and written resources to shape lives and strengthen families and young people.
These book launches represented more than literary milestones, they symbolized a growing body of work dedicated to empowering adolescents, guiding parents, and equipping the next generation with the tools they need to thrive.
Another landmark moment was the official launch of the Yetunde Olagbuji Youth Empowerment Seed Foundation (YOYES Foundation); a bold and compassionate initiative established to support adolescents and young people, especially those whose education and future have been threatened by poverty and lack of opportunity.
The launch of the YOYES Foundation was a deeply meaningful extension of Dr. Yetunde’s life work and long-standing personal commitment to supporting vulnerable young people, many of whom are only one intervention away from a completely different life trajectory.
The event also featured a fundraising segment, inviting stakeholders, partners, and supporters to become part of a larger mission: ensuring that no young person is denied the chance to thrive simply because of circumstance.
It was not just about raising funds.
